Sometymes Why is the 100th album I have done under the Myndflower moniker since starting back in May of 2009. The first 70 were released on Soundcloud, roughly on a monthly basis from July of 2009 until October of 2016 when it all stopped for a variety of reasons... until May 29th, 2020, in the very heart of the uncertainty of the pandemic when I recorded "Sadness Rains."
Since then, I have done many new things, returned to some of the old songs from the first era, explored a lot of new ground, found new tunings to grow with, found new sounds through pedals and in field recordings out in the world, collaborating with friends and unforeseen visitors, and kept my creative syde alyve and well.
All told, there have been well over 1000 songs composed and recorded since 2009, some in the same territory, others in territory explored once or twice and never returned to. The freedom of being a solo artist is just that: to be able to follow the muse wherever it takes you, to explore permutations of the same themes again and again if need be until your soul is satisfied, answering to no one but your own inner critic.
Sometymes why or always why?
Kromodelic sounds both known and unknown mixing the familiar and the forgotten, our first release on the new Kromodelic imprint.
A few words on the pieces:
Sometymes Why: a question or an answer, or both? We're still searching to know through these sounds, and in the end, the question may remain.
Themes for an Unwritten Play: are just that, inspired by the remarkable Chip Bolcik, prolific playwright and brilliant artist of many mediums, in touch with many worlds. Basically a solo guitar piece with subtle touches beneath.
Superamos Superaremos: We overcame and shall overcome --words to live by in these chaotically uncertain tymes. Based on the chords of "Superar," a track from 2020 that is found on "De esta vida" that was done thinking of a dear friend going through a difficult time.
California, Bittersweet: as so many places are, the confluence of worlds brings unusual contrasts, some of great beauty--while others...
Sweet Sun: again, basically a solo guitar piece with some subtleties beneath paying homage to the sweetness of winter lyfe under the California sun.
I Saw Them Through The Haze: sonically representing the uncertain planes presented through the fog trying to discern what's where, what's what, who's there.
The Colors Slowly Melting: looking at the beautiful cover painting and what is happening to them here and what also happens under other circumstances we won't elaborate upon here.
Who We Still Are: built on the chords of "Who We Once Were" from "From Another Lyfe," this is who we still are, digging deep within (and best played loud for full effect).
