Another one from the archives, recorded at the Invisible Cave, Boulder, Colorado, and the Whispering Gallery, Sioux Falls, South Dakota between 2010-2014.
Most of these solo pieces were done with the intent to color outsyde the lines, sometimes completely outsyde. One of the tracks is issued here for the first time.
About the tracks:
They Came From Far Away
Recorded April 10, 2014 at the Whispering Gallery on high-strung guitar. A trip into the deserts of Sahel, that also pays homage to the many refugees from Sudan, Somalia, and Ethiopia who found their way to what must have seemed like an alien world in the upper midwest of the US.
Originally issued on Soundcloud on "A Place Without Words," August 2014, remixed and remastered March 2024.
The Prophecy
Recorded January 16, 2012, at the Invisible Cave on a Barclay, particle-board 12-string guitar from the 60s with its very peculiar resonance and tone. Familiar territory diving right into an imaginary Middle-Eastern mode, evoking spirits from non-existent worlds of an ancient past.
Originally issued on Soundcloud on "The Neglected Plane of Wisdom," March 2012, remixed and remastered March 2024.
Batoh
Recorded February 17, 2010, at the Invisible Cave on a Venezuelan cuatro.
This reaches back to some of the earliest Myndflower, from the 3rd album. An homage to Masaki Batoh, whose explorations in Ghost are always an inspiration. The cuatro's tone reminded me of a koto and Ghost's use of different acoustic instruments to shape their sonic world.
Originally issued on Soundcloud on "Invisible Sky," March 2010.
R!
Recorded January 15, 2011, at the Invisible Cave on a Gibson 335 electric guitar. Reaching back to my days playing free jazz, my admiration for Sonny Sharrock is pretty evident here, among other sounds looking to take the sound as far out as I could reach.
Originally issued on Soundcloud on "Extensions of Abstractions," February 2011.
Seemed Darkest, But Wasn't (Temple Stone)
Recorded March 13, 2012, at the Invisible Cave on a Venezuelan cuatro.
Another trip to the east, a faux-Eastern folk melody attempting to extract exoticism from the curious twang of the cuatro, and again inspired by the aura of Ghost.
Originally issued on Soundcloud as "Temple Stone" on the album "The Ashes of the Hours," May 2012.
Long Winter Echoes (As The Sun Peeked Through The Icy Window)
Recorded May 8, 2014, at the Whispering Gallery on a Danelectro DC-3 electric guitar. According to the locals, the winter of 2013-2014, our first winter in Sioux Falls, was the coldest in over 50 years. The sub-zero temperatures created a crust of ice inside the windows, leaving no doubt as to how inclement our environment was. The music here echoed the feelings evoked beyond the sensations of frigidity. In May, the ice still found its way to the inner window, with a spring sun giving a ray of hope for a warmer tomorrow two weeks yet to come.
Previously unissued.
